The Gaffa's Full Match Report
  Willow Wanderers F.C. 2
VS
  North Maidenhead F.C. 2

The Gaffa mixed up the team and positions to enjoy the final match of the 2007/08 season. A very interesting and eventful match ended in a point a piece.

Willow looked dangerous early on trying to expose the North Maidenhead defence with the surprise of extra pace up front with Stephen Martin and Iain Davies starting as Centre Forwards. The Midfield was bolstered with the strength for Colin Jacobs (Gaffa) and Jamie Stannett and pace on both wings in Adam Clark and Jamie Merton.

The defence was more solid than ever with Daryl Richards (Captain in the 1st Half), Adam Richards (2nd Half Captain), Gary Oldham, Ryan Williams and Phil O'Brien in goal.

Willow went 1-0 up after 20 mins with an overhead through ball from the Gaffa trying to find Iain Davies with the extra pace! Iain was blocked off but applied sufficient pressure to force their defence to make a mistake after lobbing the keeper. 10 minutes later the visitors brought the game level after the referee didn't give the obvious foul on Jamie Merton, North Maidenhead played on to bring it to 1-1.

Scott Stroud, Tim Jones and Jack Flemming all entered to field of play as the Willow made good use of the 'roll-on/roll-off' substitutions.

2nd Half was more of the same with more of the chances going to the home team. 5 Minutes in the referee gave a shocking decision as he awarded a penalty for the tackle by the Gaffa which was just outside the area. North Maidenhead converted to make it 1-2.

10 minutes later the pressure built for the Willow and out of nowhere the referee awarded a penalty to the home team as Iain Davies was judged to be pushed in the back. Willow's long serving Captain (Iain Davies) stepped up and cooly slotted away the spot kick to bag his 1st goal for the club and to tie the match at 2-2.

The positions were changed about again and some very good efforts in the 2nd 45 minutes from both of the Adam's, Daryl and Gary could have won it for the home side but no one came closer than the Gaffa himself. A left foot shot from 6 yards was ruled off-side and a solid header from the edge of the 18 yard area was steered nicely goalwards by the manager, only to see the ball whistle past the top left up-right.....It just wasn't to be!

All in all, The Mighty Willow could have and should have come away with all 3 points but honours even it stayed til the end. The aim of the match was to mix up the positions and enjoy the last match of the season and i think it is fair to say that lots of fun was had by all.

There is ONLY one question on everyones lips........When does the seeason start again!!!!!
