The Mitre have only lost one league match all season and that was a 6-0
trashing by Willow Wanderers the last time around, back on 1st November 2008.
Player/Manager
(Colin Jacobs) of The Mighty Willow Wanderers was expecting a backlash from
their last encounter and it certainly turned out to be a fierce match
between the two East Berks League Division 4 rivals.
Both sides had
chances to break the deadlock but valiant defending from Jamie Stannett, Colin Jacobs, Tim Thorpe and Dave Merton & The Mitre kept
the scoreline level til half time.
Outstanding efforts from Adam Richards, Tim Jones and
Andrew Barker were only denaid by some excellent reaction saves from the
Mitre's keeper during the second half.
Just as the match looked like it was going to end up as a
stalemate, Tim Jones was released by an excellent through-ball by Andrew
Barker in the 85th minute only to be taken out in the penalty area by the
Mitre's defence. Adam Richards (Captain) stepped up to slot home only to
be denied by the keeper, but Super-Sub Tom Clark was to quickest to react
and fired the ball home from the follow-up, 1-0.
Two or Three top draw
saves were required from the Willow keeper (Adam Clark) and some last ditch defending denied The Mitre
any way back into the match.
Willow Wanderers are the only team to beat
The Mitre in the league this season and this sweet victory moves them up to
2nd with only a few matches remaining.
How good does it feel.............Fantastic said Tha Gaffa :-)
